The central premise of the exhibition is to explore the many ways in which artists have addressed the passions: joy, fear, sorrow and anger in contemporary as well as classical art. Works by major artists such as Alice Neel, Louise Bourgeois, Robert Gober, Bill Viola, Ron Mueck, Bruce Nauman, Fred Tomaselli, Cindy Sherman, Jeff Koons, Diane Arbus, Richard Avedon, Alex Katz and Eric Fischl will be on view. These works will be juxtaposed by important European classical paintings, prints and sculptures dating from the 15th through the early 19th centuries, including works by Il Cerano, Lucas Cranach, the Elder, Jacques Louis David, Cornelis Dusart, Jean Frederic Schall, Hieronymus Bosch, and Pieter Brueghel, the Elder.
