Congratulations to Teresa Margolles on the opening of En la Herida, on view from November 24, 2019 through February 23, 2020 at Kunsthalle Krems in Krems, Austria.
For over twenty-five years, Teresa Margolles (b. 1963, Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico) has investigated the social and aesthetic dimensions of conflict, creating sculptural installations, photographs, films, and performances imbued with material traces of trauma and loss. Working closely with communities precluded from access to systems of social care, Margolles explores the relationship between violence and marginality, especially in light of gender.
En la Herida will feature a new performance carried out by Mariella, a trans sex worker from Vienna, Austria, involving the incision of a fifty-meter long horizontal slit carved into the museum wall with a knife and filled with fat. The work will remain on view for the duration of the exhibition, alongside important bodies of work developed over the past decade in collaboration with trans sex workers in Ciudad Júarez, Mexico.
En la Herida is presented at Kunsthalle Krems in collaboration with AIR – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria and will be accompanied by a catalogue published by Hirmer. The exhibition is curated by Florian Steininger.
